Employee Benefits


MMSD provides a competitive benefits package for employees based on Labor Agreement and Commission Policy that include the following:

  • Salaries and wages: Competitive salaries and employees are paid biweekly.
  • Vacation and holidays: Two to five weeks based on years of service plus floating holidays and fourteen holidays each year.
  • Insurance benefits: health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance benefits as well as an employee assistance program, flexible spending and deferred compensation (457). Some employee contributions may be required to participate in these benefits.
  • Employees earn sick leave.
  • Retirement benefit: For new employees, participation in the City of Milwaukee Employes' Retirement System requires an employee contribution for a limited time.
  • Educational Reimbursement Program:  full time employees are eligible for tuition reimbursement for up to $1,500 per calendar year.
