DON'T BRING US LATEX PAINT
It's OK to dry it out and throw it in the garbage.  You don't have to pay when you visit one of our collection facilities, but MMSD has to pay to dispose what you bring us.  We pass along our costs for the program to Milwaukee County Residents through the District's user charges.  Less latex equals lower program costs for you.

To dry it out, pour a thin layer in a box lined with a plastic bag.  Newspaper or kitty litter will help absorb more paint in the box.  When the paint in the box is dry, pour in another layer until the can is empty.  Discard the dried paint in the garbage.  Make sure to take the lid off before throwing the empty can in the garbage.

PLACES TO GET RID OF ELECTRONICS & OTHER ITEMS
Because our Household Hazardous Waste Program does not accept all items, we're providing the following list, as a public service, of places where you can properly dispose certain items.  You should check with your municipality to see if it offers disposal services for items not accepted at our hazardous waste collection facilities.

Goodwill is now accepting computer equipment and televisions:

FREE Electronics Recycling for City of Milwaukee Residents -  Now Accepting TVs!
Many Consumer Electronics Banned from Landfills September 1st

Wisconsin's new electronics recycling law bans certain electronic items from landfills, such as TVs, computers, printers and fax machines.  It also creates a state wide recycling program called E-Cycle Wisconsin.  City of Milwaukee residents may recycle electronics through the E-Cycle program for FREE at City Self-Help Centers located at 6660 N Industrial Rd. and 3879 W Lincoln Ave.

The E-Cycle program is the state's first comprehensive system in Wisconsin for recycling electronics from households and K-12 public schools.  Until now, local governments and taxpayers were often left paying the bill for recycling and cleaning up improperly managed electronics.  Under the new program, manufacturers will bear the primary financial responsibility for the recycling of banned electronics.

For more information, including a full list of banned items, visit the DPW's website or call (414) 286-CITY (2489).
