Small, Women and Minority Owned
Business Enterprise Info (SWMBE)
MMSD has a strong commitment to the Small, Women, Minority (SWMBE) businesses. In order to encourage SWMBE participation, the District has established procurement goals of 13 percent for MBE's, 5 percent for SBE's, and 2 percent for WBE's. In 2012, the District awarded contracts or subcontracts totaling nearly $11.8 million, or 22.1% of all procurement awards to SWMBE's.
The Procurement Office can explain how to get connected to the District procurement opportunities and purchasing policies.
MMSD Small Business Certification
Certification as a MMSD Small Business Enterprise (SBE) starts with the vendor registration process. To be certified as a MMSD SBE with the District, all interested firms must submit a completed MMSD SBE certification application and provide proof of gross sales less than $2.5 million in the most recent fiscal year. The MMSD SBE Application can be found in the vendor registration system or downloaded using the link below.

SWMBE Public Directory
SWMBE firms that register with the District through the vendor registration process and provide proof of their certification will be listed in a public directory. Once the District has reviewed and accepted the registration of certificated SWMBE firms, this information becomes immediately available in the online certified public vendor directory on the District's website.
While there are various entities that provide SWMBE certification services, below are links to the most common SWMBE certifications that the District recognizes:
The District will occasionally recognize other SWMBE certifications. If you have any questions, please contact the S/W/MBE Coordinator at (414) 272-5100.
