SARA HACKBARTH,
Facilities Information Supervisor

I have been the Facilities Information Department Supervisor at MMSD since November of 2004.  In this role, I commonly interact with all MMSD departments, forge relationships with intergovernmental agencies, and facilitate communication with the public.  My responsibilities at MMSD have continued to increase, allowing me to gain experience in the areas that interest me:  project management, technology, and sustainability planning.  I have taken advantage of tuition reimbursement and internal training sessions that better prepare me to face the challenges of tomorrow.  MMSD also stresses the importance of balancing family and work—allowing me to be both a successful professional and mother.

HEATHER MASON, Graphic Designer
MMSD has given me the opportunity to broaden my graphic abilities. From brochures to full wall murals, stickers to six foot standing banners, I've done most... I've learned so much about the environment and realized there is much more to MMSD than just wastewater treatment, there's land conservation projects, workforce development, water monitoring programs, medicine collections, so many... I can't even begin to scratch the surface. MMSD is like an onion, there are so many layers!

RUDY ACOSTA, Monitoring Specialist
The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District has provided me many opportunities to serve our service areas' environmental concerns in a team oriented” and healthy working environment.

COURTNEY ALLEN, Project Manager
When I was hired by MMSD, my experience in construction management was taken into consideration.  Recognizing my background and experience, I was placed as a Resident Engineer-in-Training and currently work on major construction sites.  I am actively continuing my educational advancement in the Civil Engineer Program by attending evening courses at UWM while balancing my MMSD work load. As a Resident Engineer-in-Training (Project Manager) with the District, I have obtained additional knowledge applicable to job responsibilities, projects, the environment and public health & property.

JEFF MacDONALD, Microbiologist
I have always been interested in the natural world around us and its many wonders.  I found woods, fields, lakes and ponds to be fascinating places, full of interesting plants and animals.  As I learned more, particularly in college, I discovered that life on the microscopic scale is where a whole lot of the activity in most ecosystems occurs, and that the organisms involved were often interesting to observe.

When I came out of college, I hoped for a position where my skills in environmental microbiology could be put to use for the benefit of the environment.  In my 27+ years at MMSD I have been able to be a part of a team actively involved in environmental protection – primarily working to keep Lake Michigan clean.  Several aspects of my position have some bearing on environmental protection, but the one that is most direct is the microscopic evaluation of the activated sludge process at our two WWTP's.  Process engineers who operate the plants use information from a variety of sources, including microscopic evaluations, to make decisions regarding plant operation.

JENNIFER WRIGHT, Senior Project Manager
I was hired as a Project Manager by the District 9 years ago after working several years in consulting.   I was promoted to Senior Project Manager about 6 months after being hired.  My experience includes managing wastewater conveyance and flood management projects from a conceptual level planning effort through design and construction.  The quality of this work experience has enhanced my professional skills due to its evolving nature that includes interactions with consultants, contractors, as well as with internal and external stakeholders.  The amazing level of expertise of fellow staff, as well as the available professional development and training opportunities have provided a firm foundation for my personal and professional growth.

URBAIN BOUDJOU, Project Manager
Wow!  Eight years since I started working at the District as an intern in the summer of 2000.  Time has gone by fast.  The experience has been tremendous.  The District has a particularity to be very diverse in terms of job related activities.  I was given the opportunity to work in several departments that has helped in my professional growth.  Working in departments such as Industrial Waste, Monitoring, Watercourse, Planning, and now in Treatment Plants has built up a broad understanding of what the District is constituted of.  Coming to the District with a background in civil and environmental engineering, the goal was to be exposed and open to any new challenges.  Never say no to a new project; always go for it.  This is how an individual can learn and appreciate the challenge behind it.  People working at the District are very open and available in the sense of helping you achieve your day-to-day activity and your professional goal.  The experience I have accumulated at the Sewerage District in the past eight years has made me professionally wiser.
